Upon her departure on her maiden voyage the following day, November 21, 1999, Voyager of the Seas was the largest cruise ship in the world, although she was overtaken the following year by her sister ship Explorer of the Seas. She measured 137,276 GT at launch with a displacement of 58,000 t (57,000 long tons; 64,000 short tons), and a 2015 refurbishment increased her tonnage to 138,194 GT. She is 311 m (1,020 ft) long overall, has a waterline beam (width) of 36.8 m (121 ft) and a height of 63 m (207 ft).
As of 2016 Voyager of the Seas alternates between Australia and New Zealand itineraries out of Sydney in Southern Hemisphere summer and Asia itineraries out of Singapore and Hong Kong in the Northern Hemisphere summer.
In early 2017, Royal Caribbean announced that the Voyager of The Seas would be leaving Australia for the 2018-19 season, and that it will be sailing in Singapore and China for a year-round season.

Development of steamboat navigation
In December 1835, the merchant Casimir Friedrich Knörr surprised the people of Lucerne with his announcement that he intended to found a steamboat company. The proud "Stadt Luzern" was the first steamboat to make its maiden voyage on 24 September 1837. The shipping guilds feared for their existence, however, and pressured the government officials from the canton of Uri into prohibiting the landing of the steamboat. After one year, a compromise was finally made. Thereafter, various other steamboat companies were founded, which led to strong competition between them and price cutting. In 1870, the two oldest companies merged to form the "United Steam Ship Company of Lake Lucerne". In 1885, the company name was changed to "Steamship Company of Lake Lucerne" (DGV). Subsequent to the two World Wars, when shipping was suspended, DGV generally experienced an upward swing. In 1960, the company was finally renamed "The Lucerne Navigation Company " (SGV).
Since 1931, nine diesel motor boats have been built and five paddle steamers, previously heated with coal, have been converted to oil-fired vessels in SGV’s own wharf. In 1972, the "Friends of Steamboat Navigation" association was formed. Since then, it has supported SGV financially and ideologically with the refurbishing of the steamboats. In 1997, SGV and Friends of the Steamboats celebrated the two anniversaries "160 Years of Steamboat Navigation" and "25 Years of Steamboat Friends" with an impressive steamboat parade".

HISTORY

Steamer North American was a Great Lakes steamship built by the Great Lakes Engineering Works at Ecorse, Michigan, in 1913 for the Chicago, Duluth & Georgian Bay Transit Company. The vessel was launched on January 16, 1913, and was the older of two near-sister ships, the newer one being SS South American.

In 1963, North American was sold to the Canadian Holiday Company of Erie, Pennsylvania. The company used her in cross-lake service between Erie and Port Dover, Ontario, Canada, for one year until she was retired in 1964. After being retired from service, North American was involved in purchasing deals of uncertain nature, and was finally sold at public auction to the Seafarers International Union of North America in 1967 for use as a training ship at Piney Point, Maryland.

While North American was in the North Atlantic Ocean under tow to Piney Point, she unexpectedly sank off Massachusetts on September 4, 1967, 25 nautical miles (29 miles; 46 km) northeast of Nantucket Light.

In July 2006, a research team aboard Quest Marine’s research vessel Quest located the North American close to the edge of the continental shelf, approximately 140 miles (230 km) off the New England coast in 250 feet (76 m) of water.
